Communication giant WhatsApp, widely used for texting and calling, is unavailable for use in several countries across the world.
The problem, affecting both phone and computer versions of the service, was noticed in India around noon on October 25, 2022. The popular app even offers payment services in India, where it has the largest number of users.
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has not yet issued an official statement addressing the outage. The company’s Twitter account shows a tweet from 15 hours ago, which refers to the new privacy features of the app.
It is unclear if the rollout of any new features had anything to do with the mass outage.
Meanwhile, alternate messaging is possible for individuals via other applications such as Telegram or Signal. Facebook Messenger, owned by Meta, also appears to be operational.
