Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S.Jagan launched ‘YSR Sunna Vaddi (Zero interest) loan scheme’ for Self-Help Groups (SHG) on April 24th, at his office.
The Chief Minister estimated the beneficiaries of the scheme to be around 91 lakh individuals or 8,78,00 Self Help Groups. Each group is expected to receive an amount of Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000 per year, he added.
Mr. Jagan said that while the banks in some districts disbursed loans at 7 percent interest as per the central government’s directives, elsewhere interest rates up to 13 percent are being charged. All these groups are set to benefit now, he said.
Women prioritized in Government Schemes
Commending women to be more prudent than men, the Chief Minister said that the government plans to disburse every rupee directly to them.
The AP CM sought to remind the people of ‘Amma Vodi’ plan that was launched in January, which he estimated would benefit about 43 lakh mothers and 82 lakh children by awarding Rs 15000 to each mother, ever year.
The government is committed to ‘English medium’
CM Jagan repeated that his government is committed to bringing English Medium education to every child.
The government had received a setback from the Judiciary recently while trying to make education in English mandatory for students. The Chief Minister did not elaborate on whether the government will appeal the court’s decision or work on their earlier plan in conformation with the court’s ruling.
The House Sites
The 27 lakh house sites that were to be given but held back by the onset of coronavirus pandemic could perhaps be awarded on July 8th, his late father, and erstwhile Chief Minister of AP Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy’s Birth Anniversary, said, Mr. Jagan.
The Chief Minister had also indicated that the government may construct houses in the sites but did not elaborate further.
