On Monday, West Bengal became the latest state to pass a resolution against CAA. The total number of states that passed resolutions against CAA has now gone up to four, the other three being Rajasthan, Punjab, and Kerala.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee termed the CAA anti-constitutional and inhumane.
While the recent Rajasthan assembly’s resolution against the CAA had asked for the NPR (National Population Register) form to delete some “fields of information,” West Bengal’s resolution asked for the NPR to be abolished altogether.
West Bengal had already passed a resolution against NRC late last year.
Although the state assemblies can pass resolutions, they aren’t binding on the Central Government, say BJP leaders.
