The US reported 52,209 cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

The World Health Organization places the total number of infections in the US at 44,194,80, of whom almost all have recovered, except for those who succumbed to the virus. That brings us to the death toll.

The fatalities

The WHO places the COVID-19 related deaths in the US at 710,757, whereas the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-CDC of the US currently gives a fatality count of 712,930.

The CDC, a US domestic organization, would have more recent data than the World health body.

The US CDC breaks down the mortalities according to the age groups, and here is how it looks.

  • 543,214 that is 76.2 percent of those who died are over 65 years of age
  • 143,169 that is 20.1 percent of the dead are aged 45-64 years,
  • 26,547 that is 3.7 percent of the fatalities are under 45 years of age.

On average, 1,700 deaths are being reported per day in the US. According to the authorities, a vast majority of people dying from the virus are not vaccinated.

How many have taken vaccines?

A whopping 187.9 million people in the US are now fully vaccinated, and 8.9 million have even received a booster dose.

That is almost 70 percent of adults fully vaccinated. But some states have lower vaccination rates than others.

Almost a million doses are being given in a single day across the country.

Travel restrictions to ease

With the vaccinations at a satisfactory level, the US is easing up the travel restrictions that have been in place for many months now.

First to benefit from this decision are Canada and Mexico, who have a travel route to the US via land.

Whether the visitors to the US take the land route now or air travel later, proof of being fully vaccinated is a must.

Global tally

The WHO has put the total number of infections across the globe at 238,521,855 confirmed and deaths at 4,863,818.
