Typhoon Nanmadol has made landfall in the south Japanese prefecture of Kagoshima.
Earlier, Japanese officials issued emergency warnings for the residents of Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures on the southern island of Kyushu as Typhoon Nanmadol neared the coast.
According to the latest weather update, the Typhoon could unleash wind speeds of 150 – 250 kilometers per hour. Record-breaking rainfall and flash floods are expected over the coming hours.
Millions of residents in the affected areas were urged to find sturdy and safer constructions and to stay away from windows.
Most of Japan to bear the brunt of the Typhoon
After landfall in southwest Japan, Typhoon Nanmadol will likely move northeast, covering much of the Japanese mainland.
Currently, most flight services across the nation are disrupted, and several train services have been canceled.
Japan, a developed nation with renowned infrastructure, is vulnerable to earthquakes and occasionally extreme weather.
