There is no ‘second leak’ of harmful gas, assured the NDRF, as the people in Visakhapatnam reported smelling ‘chemicals’ in the air.
Shocked with yesterday’s gas leak horror, the residents in the port city were apprehensive of chemicals in the air. However, it is only the ‘smell,’ of the fumes emanating from neutralizing the leaked gas, explained Satya Narayan Pradhan, Director General of the National Disaster Response Force. He sought to assure that there is no reason to panic.
Chemicals required to ‘neutralize’ the leaked styrene at the factory were brought afresh from Daman overnight, and experts on the ground dealing with the technical process will be providing more updates, added Mr. Pradhan.
Eleven people have died, and over 300 people affected by the gas leak continue to receive treatment at different hospitals in the city.
