Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has suspended its MLA from Satyavedu, Koneti Adimulam, following serious allegations of sexual harassment and assault.
The decision comes in the wake of a woman party worker accusing MLA Adimulam of persistent harassment and assault, claims that were accompanied by a video that surfaced on social media.
The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, detailed her ordeal in a press conference, stating that Adimulam had not only harassed her but also threatened her with dire consequences if she spoke out.
She said she captured some of those interactions using a pen camera and presented the data to the media, demanding justice.
TDP State President Palla Srinivas Rao acted promptly upon the allegations and suspended Mr. Adimulam from the party.
“We stand with the victim and assure her of our full support. Such behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated within our ranks,” Mr. Srinivas Rao stated in a press release.
The local police have initiated an investigation based on the complaint and the video evidence.
Mr. Koneti Adimulam had previously won the 2019 elections as a YSRCP candidate before switching to TDP.
