Seethakoka Chilaka, the teenage romance film from Edida Nageswara Rao, which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu, released 40 years ago on August 21.
Ilayaraja’s music made the movie an enduring musical hit.
The movie explored a love story between a teenagers from different communities, amidst great music score by Ilayaraja. Great music had become a hallmark of Edida Nageswara Rao’s movies by then.
Poornodaya Creations, which came up with the musical classic ‘Sankarabharanam,’ also introduced Hero Karthik to Telugu Audience with ‘Seethakoka Chilaka,’ while Mucherla Aruna played the leading lady. Bharathiraja’s direction of the movie earned accolades.
The movie sets out in a village backdrop, hero falls in love with heroine and while them hailing from different communities plays spoilsport, heroine learning music from hero’s mother enables them to meet often, eventually leading them into love.
Apart from the National Film Award, the movie had also won Nandi Awards for Best Feature Film, Best Music and Best Direction. Sarath Babu played the Heroine’s brother, from whom the Hero and others apprehend danger throughout the film.
