Indian tennis star Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden proved their mettle in doubles tennis again by emerging victorious in the Miami Open men’s doubles final on March 30, 2024.
The hard-fought battle against second seeds Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek gave Bopanna and Ebden their second ATP Masters 1000 title following their success at the Indian Wells tournament in 2023.
A thriller
Bopanna and Ebden fought back from a set down to secure a 6-7(3), 6-3, 10-6 win in an hour and 43 minutes.
The top seeds showcased their resilience and determination, saving seven of eight break points in the match. Their ability to find precise serves at crucial moments proved to be the key to their victory.
World No 1 at 44
Bopanna, who became the World’s number one doubles player by winning the Australian Open earlier this year, along with partner Ebden, has not only secured another title but also consolidated their position at the top of the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings. Their success in Miami has further solidified their status as one of the most formidable doubles teams on the ATP Tour.
Bopanna, who became the oldest Masters 1000 titlist in Indian Wells last year, has broken his previous record by claiming the Miami crown.
In addition to their Miami Open triumph, Bopanna and Ebden reached three finals in 2024 and won two.
