Queen Maxima of the Netherlands met with Indian President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 29, 2022, to discuss universal financial inclusion.
Queen Maxima is United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate (UNSGSA) for Inclusive Finance for Development. She has been serving in the role for over a decade.
Also an honorary President of the G20 Global Partnership for Inclusive Financing (GPFI), Queen Maxima discussed the digital economy with the Indian President. India will take over the G20 presidency from Indonesia in December.
According to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President and the Queen discussed deepening bilateral relations and financial inclusion.
The President told Queen Maxima that the Indian government is committed to connecting every Indian with banking to ensure that the benefits provided by the government reach the intended beneficiary without any pilferage. Queen Máxima appreciated the progress made in India in this direction in the last few years, a press release said.
Queen Maxima had also meet the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das.
Argentine by birth, Queen Maxima married into the Netherlands royal family in 2002. A princess until 2013, she became the queen after her mother-in-law’s abdication. Throughout her role as a member of the royal family, she worked for financial inclusion and LGBT rights.
