Russian President Vladimir Putin, on Sunday, alleged the involvement of Ukrainian intelligence in the Kerch bridge explosion. He said the blast was a terrorist act aimed at destroying Russia’s critical infrastructure.
Indeed the Kerch bridge is highly critical to Russia, especially in its war against Ukraine, as it offers options to transport military equipment to the Crimean Peninsula via rail route.
The October 8 blast partially damaged the bridge and killed three people.
Aleksandr Bastrykin, the head of the National Investigative Committee, who was in charge of the inquiry, said that a few Russian and foreign nationals have aided in the attack.
The bridge has since reopened for both rail and road traffic. Vehicles are allowed on two lanes instead of four, and heavy vehicles such as trucks are diverted to the Ferry service.
Although the Ukrainian politicians and officials expressed jubilance on social media following the damage to the bridge, none have claimed responsibility for the incident.
Mr. Putin will chair a Security Council meeting on Monday.
