Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the world’s longest river cruise, MV Ganga Vilas, on Jan 13, 2023, via video conference.
The passenger ship beginning its journey from Varanasi, will travel 3,200 km on the holy Ganga river to reach Dibrugarh, Assam.
On its 51-day journey through five states and Bangladesh, the ship will visit as many places of significance, including the Sunderbans and Kaziranga national park.
The three-deck ship can accommodate around 36 people in 18 suites.
The luxury cruise, which costs up to Rs. 20 L, is reportedly booked through 2024.
Connectivity, Trade, and Tourism
Speaking on occasion, the Prime Minister said there would be a multi-model network involving waterways, motorways, and railways to ensure connectivity that is vital for the country.
The venture will further promote trade and tourism, Mr. Modi said.
