Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States from September 21 to 24, 2024, witnessed diplomatic engagements and cultural celebrations, reinforcing India’s strategic ties with the US and highlighting the contributions of the vibrant Indian diaspora.
The QUAD meeting
The visit commenced with the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, hosted by President Joe Biden. This summit discussed regional security and cooperation and announced landmark agreements.
Among the agreements was a groundbreaking deal for a new semiconductor fabrication plant in India, symbolizing a major step in the technological collaboration between the two nations.
Cancer Moonshot initiative
The Quad Cancer Moonshot initiative was also unveiled. The program aims initially to combat cervical cancer and plans to expand to other types of cancer.
‘Modi and US‘
Following the summit, Mr. Modi’s itinerary included a heartwarming interaction with the Indian-American community at Nassau Veterans Coliseum in Long Island, where he addressed over 13,000 attendees.
Prime Minister Modi shared the dual victory of Indian teams at the Chess Olympiad, celebrating cultural and sporting achievements. The event also saw the US restoring 297 stolen antiquities back to India.
PM meets Mahmoud Abbas, Zelenskky, and others
The diplomatic engagements continued in New York, where Mr. Modi met with global leaders, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The meetings reiterated India’s stance on international stability, with PM Modi supporting a peaceful resolution to conflicts.
The Prime Minister also met the Vietnamese President and the Armenian Prime Minister, among other world leaders.
Addresses the UN
On the global stage, PM Modi addressed the UN’s ‘Summit of the Future,’ emphasizing the need for reform in global institutions for contemporary relevance. His speech highlighted India’s proactive role in international affairs, particularly in leading reforms at the G20.
Meets Business Leaders
Throughout his visit, Prime Minister Modi’s interactions were not confined to diplomatic circles but extended to engaging with American business leaders, discussing advancements in technology, AI, and biotechnology, aiming to foster deeper economic collaboration.
