President of the United States, Joe Biden, tweeted his greetings to the people of the Jain faith. Mr. Biden said that this was a day to strive for ‘peace, happiness, and success for all.’ He also wished that people would pursue the values of Mahavir Swami and turn away from violence.
The tweet is dated April 15 if seen from Indian Standard Time, but the US President wished on April 14, Eastern Standard Time, the day of the festival.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings, emphasizing peace, compassion, and brotherhood.
Mahavir Jayanti, the day that marks the birth of the 24th and last Tirthankara, saw members of the Jain community taking out processions in several parts of the country, with the idol of Lord Mahavir in the Chariot.
