Typhoon Yagi, which tore through the region with unprecedented fury, left a trail of destruction, claiming lives and displacing thousands.

India dispatched over 55 tonnes of aid, including critical supplies like dry rations, clothing, medicines, water purification systems, and solar lanterns to the typhoon-hit nations.

The humanitarian aid under Operation Sadbhav also included essentials like hygiene kits, mosquito nets, blankets, and generators tailored to meet the specific challenges faced by the typhoon’s survivors, such as the risk of disease outbreaks and lack of electricity.

  • Myanmar received aid through the Indian Navy’s warship INS Satpura, which carried 10 tonnes of relief materials.
  • Vietnam, a strategic partner, was supported with 35 tonnes of aid, airlifted by the Indian Air Force’s C-17 Globemaster.
  • Laos was sent 10 tonnes of aid, emphasizing India’s commitment to regional stability and support beyond immediate neighbors.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishanka pointed out the operation’s significance, as he posted on X, ‘Demonstrating our solidarity with the people affected by Typhoon Yagi, India is dispatching aid to Myanmar, Vietnam, and Laos.’
