Modi and Biden speak on the phone, discuss Ukraine and Bangladesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with U.S. President Joe Biden on the telephone, focusing on global and regional issues, including the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Bangladesh.

During the conversation, PM Modi briefed President Biden on his recent visit to Ukraine, where he met President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Mr. Modi emphasized India’s consistent stance favoring dialogue and diplomacy for resolving the Ukraine crisis, expressing full support for an early return to peace and stability in the region. His first visit to Kyiv marked a historic moment in India’s diplomatic engagement with Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia.

The discussion also veered towards the situation in Bangladesh, where concerns over the safety of Hindu minorities and political unrest have escalated following recent political changes.

Both leaders expressed shared concern over the situation, stressing the need for the restoration of law and order and ensuring the security of all minorities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh.

President Biden and PM Modi reviewed the significant strides in their bilateral relations, highlighting the India-U.S. partnership’s aim to benefit not only their citizens but also contribute positively to global humanity.

The leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation in multilateral forums, including the Quad, indicating a continued collaborative approach in the Indo-Pacific region.

The conversation also touched upon PM Modi’s upcoming visit to the U.S. for the UN General Assembly and The Summit of the Future, where further discussions on global issues are anticipated.

The dialogue between PM Modi and President Biden comes at a time when global dynamics are shifting, with both leaders navigating complex international landscapes while reinforcing their nations’ roles as stabilizers in global politics.
