Manu Bhaker wins the first medal for India at the Paris Olympics

Manu Bhaker etched her name in the annals of Indian sports history by clinching the country’s first medal at the Paris Olympics and becoming the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympic medal.

The 20-year-old shooting sensation secured a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event.

Meanwhile, the Indian shooting contingent faced setbacks, as the men’s and women’s 10m air rifle mixed team events saw India failing to make it to the medal matches.

Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Cheema also failed to make it to the final round of the men’s 10m air pistol event.

Hockey

The Indian men’s hockey team, led by captain Manpreet Singh, got off to a promising start with a thrilling 3-2 victory over New Zealand in their opening group match.

However, their hopes were dashed in the quarterfinals when the Netherlands defeated them 4-2.

Badminton

A resilient Lakshya Sen up against Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon fought back from a 16-20 deficit to win 22-20, keeping India’s hopes alive in the badminton arena.

Boxing

Indian boxer Preeti Pawar showcased her mettle in the women’s 54 kg category, defeating Vietnam’s Vo Thi Kim Anh unanimously.

Table Tennis

Harmeet Desai advanced to the round of 64 in the men’s singles event, defeating Jordan’s Zaid Abo Yaman in straight sets. He will play France’s Felix Lebrun.

Sreeja Akula entered the round of 32 after defeating Sweden’s Christina Kallberg.
