The Telangana High Court has dismissed the quash petition filed by KT Rama Rao (KTR), the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), in relation to the alleged irregularities in the Formula E race case.

The High Court turned down an oral request from KTR’s legal team for a 10-day protection from arrest, signaling a tough stance.

The court’s decision paves the way for further investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) into the financial dealings associated with the international racing event held in Hyderabad and potentially KTR’s arrest.

The Formula E case

The case revolves around allegations of financial mismanagement during the organization of the Formula E race in 2023, where KTR, then serving as the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister, was accused of sanctioning payments to foreign entities without necessary approvals, thus breaching regulations.

Following the High Court’s decision, KTR expressed his determination to fight for the truth, stating, ‘Lies won’t shatter me. I’ll continue my fight for truth.’ He emphasized his belief that the legal scrutiny was politically motivated but reiterated his readiness to cooperate with the investigation processes.

KTR approaches the Supreme Court

KTR’s lawyers have taken the matter to the Supreme Court of India to contest the High Court’s ruling.

The Supreme Court approach is seen as an attempt by KTR to seek a higher judicial review of the decisions made by the Telangana High Court, particularly regarding the validity of the charges and the procedural aspects of the case. His legal team is expected to argue based on the political context surrounding the allegations.
