Actress Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck after two years of marriage. The filing on August 20, 2024, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, marks the end of a chapter that many hoped would rewrite the narrative of their early 2000s romance.

The Second Act of ‘Bennifer’

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, whose relationship was once dubbed “Bennifer,” first met on the set of the film “Gigli” in 2002. Their engagement in November of that year was followed by intense media scrutiny, which they cited as a reason for their initial breakup in 2004.

Fast forward nearly two decades and the couple rekindled their romance, leading to a whirlwind Las Vegas wedding in July 2022, followed by a more traditional ceremony in Georgia a month later.

The Filing Details

According to court documents and reports, the official separation date listed by Lopez is April 26, 2024, indicating that the decision to part ways was made several months before the public announcement.

The filing follows numerous reports suggesting that the couple had been living separately, with Affleck moving out of their shared home, which was subsequently put up for sale.

What now for both celebrities?

Following the divorce filing, Ms. Lopez has been seen focusing on her career, with recent projects including her album “This Is Me… Now” and its accompanying film, which explores themes of love and self-discovery.

Mr. Affleck, on the other hand, has been spotted spending time with his children from his previous marriage to Jennifer Garner, indicating a return to a more private life.
