India celebrates 73rd Republic Day

The day starts with paying homage to the fallen heroes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the fallen members of the armed forces at the National War Memorial. He was received at the Memorial by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and the Chiefs of Army, Navy, and the Air Force.

The Prime Minister left to the Rajpath straight from the National War Memorial, while President Ram Nath Kovind left Rashtrapati Bhavan and joined him there at the ‘Salami Manch – Saluting Base.’

The national flag was unfurled at Rajpath, followed by the National Anthem and a 21-gun salute by the ceremonial battery of 871 field regiment.

The parade, which was to begin at 10 AM, began at 10.30 AM owing to weather conditions.

The audience at the parade was limited to 5000 because of the ongoing COVID situation. The adults were required to be fully vaccinated, children above 15 needed to have taken at least one dose of the vaccine, and children below 15 years of age were not allowed.

A total of 21 tableaux, comprising 12 from States and Union Territories and 9 from central government ministries, took part in the parade, and 75 aircraft from all three services took part in the Flypast. Enthralling the viewers, national broadcaster Doordarshan provided the views from within the aircraft.
