The combined forces of the Delhi Police and Gujarat Police executed a raid on October 13, 2024, uncovering 518 kilograms of cocaine in Ankleshwar, Gujarat. The seizure, part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking, has been valued at approximately ₹5,000 crore in the international market, highlighting one of the largest drug hauls in India’s recent history.
The operation, which took place at Aavkar Drugs Limited Company, not only seized a massive quantity of cocaine but also connected dots back to previous drug seizures in Delhi.
The series of operations started with the discovery of over 560 kg of cocaine and 40 kgs of hydroponic marijuana in Delhi, followed by an additional seizure of 208 kilograms of cocaine, linking all back to the pharmaceutical company in Gujarat.
The latest seizure has not only highlighted the scale of drug trafficking in the region but also very likely the interconnectedness of drug networks across states. The total value of drugs seized in these operations within the last fortnight exceeds ₹13,000 crore, pointing out the severity of the issue and the effectiveness of law enforcement’s multi-agency approach.
Meanwhile, the involvement of a company supposedly engaged in legitimate pharmaceutical activities raised questions about the infiltration of drug trafficking into legal business fronts. The drug-busting operations demonstrated the sophistication of the syndicates involved and the necessity for continuous vigilance and robust intelligence sharing among law enforcement agencies.
The latest operation also underlined the government’s commitment to a ‘Drug-Free India’ campaign.
