The state-run oil companies in India, on October 1, have hiked the price of petrol by 25 paise and diesel by 30 paise.
Depending on the state taxes, petrol and diesel are quoting different prices in different states.
Delhi, which has always had a lower sales tax, witnessed a price of Rs. 101.89 for a liter of petrol, and Rs. 90.17 (Rs. 89.87) for a liter of diesel.
Chennai, with Tamil Nadu’s lower taxes, is selling petrol at Rs. 99.58, and diesel at Rs. 94.74.
In Mumbai, the petrol is selling at Rs. 107.95, and diesel costs Rs. 97.84 a liter.
Petrol is selling at Rs. 106 per liter in Hyderabad, whereas diesel is selling at Rs. 98.39 per liter.
Internationally, the Brent Crude rose over the $ 80 mark about three days ago. Although OPEC has agreed to increase production, the impact on price is not yet seen.
