Delhi Airport, officially IGIA (Indira Gandhi International Airport), has come under sharp criticism online, with passengers complaining of long queues and severe congestion.
The congestion is so severe that some airlines have advised passengers to arrive at the airport at least 3.5 hours before the flight departure.
Most complaints centered around Terminal 3, where international and domestic services operate well over a thousand flights every day.
Several passengers posted their woes online with pictures of congested check-in lanes.
Addressing the issue, the Delhi Airport advised the use of DigiYatra service. The DigiYatra relies on facial recognition technology so passengers can travel without documentation.
Those who wish to use the service must register on its app using their Aadhaar, so the proof of vaccination can also be validated.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reviewed the situation and advised measures to ease the congestion.
