As of 9 AM, April 20th, Andhra Pradesh reported 75 new coronavirus cases overnight, taking the total to 722. As per the official numbers, of the 3775 samples processed, 75 tested positive in the last 24 hours.
Ananthapur, Krishna, and Kurnool each reported a death taking the number of those deceased from 17 to 20.
Chittoor witnesses a sudden spike
Chittoor district witnessed a sudden spike of 25 cases, which approximately doubled its total number to 53. Chittoor was recently designated a ‘hotspot’ by the central government based on the possibility of an outbreak. Also termed as a ‘Red Zone’, the hotspot area of Chittoor, carries an additional buffer zone at the district borders and implements a stringent lockdown.
Kurnool reports the highest cases in AP
Kurnool registered 16 new cases taking its total to 174 (168 active cases), and continues to be the district with the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh, followed by Guntur at 149 (130 active cases) which reported 20 new cases overnight.
As per the Government data, of the 30733 samples collected, 30011 tested negative. 92 people are classified as either discharged or cured.
Northern Andhra districts of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam have reported no positive cases of coronavirus so far.
