The Congress Party won the Telangana state election ten years after it paved the way for the formation of the state.
The poll was held on November 30, 2023, to elect all 119 members of the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
The Indian National Congress (INC) won 64 seats, while the incumbent Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) managed 39 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 8 seats, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) won 7 seats, and the Communist Party of India (CPI) won 1 seat.
The Congress campaign focused on ‘Six Guarantees,’ which included free transport for women in public transport (RTC Buses), reducing the price of gas cylinders, providing free electricity up to 200 units, and increasing the yearly grants to farmers.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi joined PCC President Rahul Gandhi in the election campaign and reiterated their election promises.
The CPI fought alongside Congress as an ally, and their sole winner, Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, was added to the latter’s tally when the party leaders met the Governor and claimed the support of 65 MLAs.
The PCC President Revanth Reddy is tipped to take oath as the Chief Minister on December 4, 2023.
