BJP Incharge for Telangana Affairs Tarun Chugh visited Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind’s residence in Hyderabad, condemned the attack by TRS cadre, and expressed solidarity with his party colleague.
Mr. Chugh’s visit follows several high-profile visits by BJP leaders to Mr. Arvind’s house. Central Minister G. Kishan Reddy had visited the MP’s residence on the same day of the attack, November 18.
What is the background to the hostilities?
Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind alleged in a press conference that TRS MLC Kavitha, also the daughter of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, had called Congress President Mallikharjun Kharge to discuss the possibility of switching parties.
Following the statement, tens of TRS cadre entered the BJP MP’s house and ransacked the parking area and the hallway.
Based on MP Arvind’s mother’s complaint, the police rounded up several TRS members, and the legal proceedings are ongoing.
Meanwhile, TRS MLC Kavitha called Mr. Arvind’s presence in BJP unfortunate and said that she would smack him with footwear in Nizamabad crossroads should he continue to speak the same way.
Ms. Kavitha’s words prompted more condemnation from BJP leaders. Actress turned Politician Vijayashanti, now in BJP, warned the Chief Minister’s daughter to stay civil.
