BJP recorded a thundering victory in the Gujarat state election, winning 156 of 182 assembly constituencies.
BJP hasn’t lost a general election in Gujarat since 1995, and this will be its seventh straight term in power.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for 13 years, campaigned extensively before the poll.
Bhupendra Patel, who retained his constituency, Ghatlodia, will also retain his Chief Ministerial post.
Congress bagged 17 seats, 60 less than its previous tally (2017).
The Aam Aadmi Party, which hoped to put a significant dent into Congress and BJP’s vote bank in Gujarat, managed victory in five constituencies.

Chattisgarh Chief Minister and party’s senior leader, Bhupesh Baghel, is in Shimla to oversee the election of the party’s candidate for the office of the Chief Minister.
