President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden celebrated Diwali at the White House on November 4.
The First Couple lit the ‘Table Diya’ and other candles finely set up within a decoration of flowers in the White House.
Wishing the Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists in America and worldwide a happy Diwali, the Bidens shared a message of unity and hope.
The tradition of celebrating Diwali at the White House began in 2003. Although the President could not participate, Karl Rove, then-President George W Bush’s chief political advisor, lit the brass ‘Table Diya’ and participated in the festivities.
In 2009, President Obama lit the ceremonial lamp himself.
