Former minister and five-time MLA from Ongole, Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, has officially resigned from the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) on September 18, 2024. He met Janasena chief and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan the following day.
Mr. Balineni’s decision to leave YSRCP was communicated through a letter addressed to party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. In his letter, Balineni cited personal reasons for his exit but also highlighted his disillusionment with the party’s leadership. Despite his efforts to address the concerns within the party, he had felt sidelined and ignored, leading to his resignation, he said.
Balineni Srinivasa Reddy is expected to formally join the Janasena at a public meeting soon.
A tipping point for YSRCP?
Mr. Balineni’s resignation comes at a time when several YSRCP leaders are reportedly contemplating a similar move, indicating a broader dissatisfaction within the ranks of YSRCP. The shift is seen as an attempt by these leaders to align with Jana Sena, which has been gaining traction under Pawan Kalyan’s leadership, especially after significant victories in the 2024 elections.
The political implications of Balineni Srinivas Reddy’s move are profound. His reputation as a grassroots leader and outspoken nature on issues like liquor policy and governance made him a significant figure. His alliance with Jana Sena could bolster the party’s position in upcoming political battles and reshape voter dynamics in regions where Balineni has a strong base.
