Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared August 14th as the ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.’
PM Modi hoped the day would remind people of the need to remove the poison of social divisions and disharmony while strengthening the spirit of oneness.
The partition of India is one of the most tragic and bloodiest times of history, with hundreds of thousands of people killed and millions more displaced as they desperately struggled to migrate between India and Pakistan.
The communal violence sparked riots, assaults, and looting, causing immense misery to all those who survived the ghastly episode.
The Prime Minister’s announcement comes while India marks its 75th year of Independence as ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ ( Elixir of energy of Independence).
All departments of the Government, the ministries are to mark the occasion in their own way by hosting activities for a resurgent ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self Reliant India)
