Atishi Marlena to succeed Kejriwal as Delhi’s Chief Minister

Atishi Marlena is set to become the Chief Minister of Delhi following the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal.

Mr. Kejriwal, who spent five months in jail in a case related to now scrapped liquor sales policy, has submitted his resignation to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. He has said he would take up the CM’s post only if Aam Aadmi Party is re-elected, suggesting that the upcoming election would be a mandate on his case.

The Rise of Atishi

Atishi Marlena’s rise to the position of Chief Minister was marked by a unanimous decision by AAP legislators, showcasing her stature within the party. 

Ms. Atishi, who has been instrumental in various capacities within the Delhi government, notably managed 14 key portfolios, making her one of the most influential ministers in Delhi’s political landscape.

Atishi’s journey to the top has been marked by her significant contributions, especially in the education sector, where she played a crucial role in transforming Delhi’s government schools. 

Her political acumen and administrative capabilities were further tested and proven during the crises faced by AAP, including the incarceration of top party leaders.

The political landscape in Delhi now sees Atishi at the helm, tasked with not only managing the day-to-day governance but also preparing the AAP for upcoming elections. Her immediate challenges include maintaining the momentum of AAP’s governance model, which has been centered around public welfare and anti-corruption, while also countering the political maneuvers of opposition parties.
