Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, moved the High Court to release him immediately from the Enforcement Directorate’s custody. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener has termed his arrest illegal.
Earlier in the day, the trial court had sent him to ED custody until March 28. His lawyers contested in the trial court that despite 200 raids and a year of investigation, no evidence was found to prove Mr. Kejriwal’s involvement.
On March 21, the Delhi High Court refused to grant him anticipatory bail concerning the Delhi Liquor Policy Money Laundering case. Hours later, the Delhi CM was arrested by the ED.
What is the Liquor Policy case?
The ED alleged that Mr. Kejriwal was the ‘kingpin’ behind orchestrating a liquor policy that benefited select individuals, and the illicit funds gained thus were diverted to AAP political campaigns in Goa and Punjab.
The agency estimated the proceeds of the alleged crime to be Rs. 600 Cr.
