In a move that underscores the new government’s approach to administrative discipline and accountability, Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Dwaraka Tirumala Rao has issued a directive that has caught the attention of both the public and the bureaucracy.
The directive requires 16 senior IPS officers, currently awaiting new postings, to report daily to the DGP’s office in Mangalagiri and sign an attendance register at the start and end of their day.
This decision comes in the wake of significant political changes in the state, with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leading a new coalition government, which has initiated a broad reshuffle of administrative positions.
The officers, including high-profile names like former Intelligence Chief PSR Anjaneyulu and former CID Chief N Sanjay, have been left in limbo following the election results, with their fates hanging in the balance of political transitions.
According to sources close to the DGP’s office, the directive aims to ensure these officers are available for immediate deployment and serves as a subtle reminder of the government’s expectations regarding duty and discipline.
By mandating daily attendance, the DGP would also ensure that these officers remain engaged with the administrative machinery, potentially reducing the likelihood of them engaging in activities that might be seen as politically motivated or against the interests of the new government.
