The high-speed 5G (5th generation mobile network) services, the new standard in mass wireless communication, are now being made available in select cities of India by telecommunications giant Airtel.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 5G services by placing a call to students on October 1, 2022.

The 5G network, depending on the service providers and their infrastructure, could be 10 to 100 times faster than the current 4G. The high-speed connectivity would assist across sectors, from education to entertainment to medical treatment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 5G services by placing a call to students on October 1, 2022.

Initially, Airtel will offer 5G services in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Gurugram, Chandigarh, and Delhi.

Reliance too will launch services by Diwali this year.

While Airtel aims to provide countrywide coverage by 2024, Reliance hopes to accomplish the goal within 18 months after launching its services.
