An Afghan woman delivered a baby aboard US Air Force C-17 Globemaster III on August 22, shortly before landing at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
The Department of Defense tweeted that the mother and baby received medical support once the plane had landed.
As per general medical advice and airline policies, a pregnant woman can travel up until 36 weeks of pregnancy (around eight months). The specific details about the new mother aboard the USAF plane are not known.
Afghans who worked with the US and its allies, and those at risk under the Taliban rule, are being evacuated at a rapid pace from the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.
Some evacuees are being airlifted to the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, while the others are being directed to Fort Bliss in Texas, United States.
Tentatively, the evacuation is to be carried out by August 31. But given that thousands of US Citizens are reportedly finding it difficult to reach the airport, along with those who might qualify for evacuation, a possible extension was hinted at by US President Joe Biden.
