Bollywood actress Kadambari Jethwani has made serious allegations against YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders and high-ranking IPS officers, accusing them of orchestrating a false case against her and her family.
The Allegations
Kadambari Jethwani, known for her roles in Bollywood, lodged a formal complaint with the NTR district police commissioner, alleging that she was subjected to harassment and illegal detention by the Vijayawada police at the behest of YSRCP leader Kukkala Vidyasagar.
The actress claims that this was in retaliation to a sexual assault case she had filed against a Mumbai-based businessman, which she alleges was an attempt to silence her.
The core of Ms. Jethwani’s complaint revolves around a forgery and extortion case filed against her by YSRCP leader Kukkala Vidyasagar in February 2024, which she describes as entirely fabricated.
According to her, under the influence of Mr. Vidyasagar, top police officials, including IPS officers, got involved, arrested her and her parents without prior notice, and brought them to Vijayawada. Here, they were allegedly tortured and kept in custody for about 40 days.
Government and Police Response
Following these allegations, the Andhra Pradesh government, now led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, ordered a thorough investigation. The Vijayawada police commissioner appointed ACP Sravanthi Roy to lead the probe, focusing not only on the allegations against the police but also on the involvement of political figures in the matter.
The investigation has taken a keen interest in the conduct of two IPS officers, Vishal Gunni and Kanti Rana Tata, who are accused of playing crucial roles in the alleged illegal arrest and subsequent harassment. The police have begun recording statements and are expected to submit a comprehensive report to the Director General of Police within days.
Legal Proceedings
Kadambari Jethwani and her legal team are pushing for swift action against those accused, including Vidyasagar and the implicated IPS officers. The actress’s lawyer has emphasized the need for a fair trial, highlighting the distress caused to Jethwani’s family, particularly her 83-year-old father, a retired Army officer.
