PM Modi appeals for cessation of war in Ukraine

In a phone call with Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India’s consistent appeal for cessation of hostilities in Ukraine and a return to dialogue and diplomacy, the MEA said a statement.

Mr. Modi emphasized India’s respect for international law and the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states.

The situation in Ukraine also came up in the discussions between Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland on March 21.

Since the war began, PM Modi has had multiple phone conversations with President Putin and President Zelensky, leaders of Russia and Ukraine, and had appealed for peace.

India has repatriated thousands of Indians from the war-affected Ukraine via ‘Operation Ganga.’

Discusses trade with the UK

According to a Press Release, Prime Minister Modi expressed satisfaction with the ongoing bilateral Free Trade Agreement negotiations between both nations.

Further cooperation in areas such as technology, defense, and security, along with people-to-people relations, also came up in the talks.

The Prime Minister appreciated the progress in implementing the ‘India-UK Roadmap 2030’ adopted during the Virtual Summit between both leaders last year.

The Prime Minister welcomed the UK PM Boris Johnson to visit India.
