Former President of the US Donald J Trump, who went silent after his social media accounts were banned, is all set to make a comeback. Mr. Trump will be launching his own social media platform called ‘Truth Social.’
Why is he doing it?
Drawing a link between some of Mr. Trump’s tweets and the post-election January 6 violence at Capitol Hill, Twitter had banned him permanently.
Facebook and Instagram banned him until January 2023.
President Trump said in a recent statement that ‘Taliban has a presence on social media, but your favorite President is silenced.’
The announcement and aftermath
Following the announcement that ‘Trump Media and Technology Group – TMTG’ would be the company launching the platform, the shares of NASDAQ listed ‘Digital World Acquisition Corp (DWAC)’ shot up.
DWAC is a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) that merges with a new company to enable its public listing, and in this case, it will collaborate with TMTG.
On the other hand, the hackers anonymous are said to have briefly taken control of the ‘Truth Social’ test platforms to post random humor.
How will ‘Truth Social’ look and feel?
While speculation was rife for a long time that Mr. Trump might float a social media company, the latest information over the last couple of days sheds more light on how the platform would look and work.
Several trademark applications are reportedly filed by ‘T Media Tech LLC’ to secure ‘Truth,’ ‘Retruth,’ and ‘Post a Truth,’ etc., suggesting that the platform would at least partly feel like Twitter. The word ‘Truth’ could be replacing ‘Tweet,’ and some other features may be similar.
The relation between T Media Tech LLC and TMTG is only assumed and not announced as of yet.
It is understood that the new media venture of the former President will do more than float a social media platform. There could be streaming services and more. As the ‘Truth Social’ app will be available for downloads in November or December, more details are expected to be made public.
