With God’s own country, as Kerala is fondly known, yet to get an upper hand on the second wave outbreak of the coronavirus, the state reported 29,836 cases in the last 24 hours, accounting for more than half of India’s new coronavirus infections.
India reported 40,909 new infections of COVID-19, and 380 deaths overnight, while 34,763 people have recovered.
Maharashtra alone reported 131 fatalities, while Kerala reported 75.
India’s active cases of coronavirus infection stand at 3,76,324.
A total of 3,19,23,405 people have recovered, and the recovery rate is 97.51 percent.
Since the outbreak began, 4,38,210 people have succumbed to the virus.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced financial aid for the children who lost their parents or guardians due to COVID-19. They are to get Rs. 3 lakh next week as a one-time deposit and Rs. 2000 every month until they turn 18. Their education will also be paid for by the state, said Mr. Vijayan.
Central Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has toured the state last week and took stock of the situation. The centre has also allotted Rs. 267 Cr to Kerala to deal with the situation.
