Former President and Republican nominee Donald Trump held a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, with Elon Musk, a star campaigner, marking one of the most talked-about political events ahead of the election.
The rally, held on October 5, 2024, was also more than a regular political meeting for Mr. Trump, as he had survived an assassination attempt at the same location weeks ago. The former President suffered a grazed ear, and a supporter died during the incident.
The rally began with a moment of silence for Corey Comperatore, the supporter who died shielding others during the assassination attempt. This was followed by a performance of ‘Ave Maria,’ adding a poignant start to the gathering.
Elon Musk endorses Trump
Elon Musk’s presence at the rally, wearing a dark-colored MAGA hat, was startling for many.
Although the billionaire visionary famous for Tesla and SpaceX has been endorsing Mr. Trump via social media posts, this was his most direct involvement.
Mr. Musk, who had been vocal in his criticism of the current administration, took the stage to endorse Donald Trump and delivered a speech appealing to uphold fundamental US values such as freedom of speech. He also urged all Trump supporters to register to vote without fail and stressed that every vote is crucial.
This was an expected statement from Mr. Musk. The election is predicted to be close, and he had been pointing out on X that states such as California no longer require an ID for someone to vote and that such loopholes would benefit the Democrats.
What did Trump say?
Mr. Trump’s speech was a mix of his signature bravado, recounting the assassination attempt as divine intervention, and policy promises, heavily inspired by Musk’s ideas, hinting at a future where technology and governance intersect more closely.
He said that thousands of illegal immigrants had criminal backgrounds, and once back in power, he would deport them all.
Secret Service on alert
Post the assassination attempt, security was visibly heightened. Mr. Trump spoke from behind protective glass, a stark reminder of the new reality of political gatherings.
Snipers were strategically located around the meeting to neutralize any threats and to secure the former President.
