Netanyahu’s trip came amid political turmoil in the United States following President Biden’s sudden withdrawal from the presidential race.

Upon his arrival in Washington, Netanyahu was greeted with a mix of cheers and jeers from protesters, who had gathered to voice their opinions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Some praised him for his strong stance against terrorism, while others criticized him for the civilian casualties in Gaza.

Inside the halls of power, Netanyahu faced a different kind of challenge. His meetings with the US officials were marked by a series of awkward moments and misunderstandings. At one point, he reportedly asked Vice President Kamala Harris if she had any tips on how to deal with a hostile press. “Just ignore them and keep smiling,” she replied before realizing that Netanyahu was asking about the situation in Gaza.

The Israeli leader addressed the US Congress and reiterated his stance, often receiving a standing ovation.

Mr. Netanyahu managed to secure a few key agreements during his visit. The US agreed to provide additional military aid to Israel, while Netanyahu promised to work towards a ceasefire with Hamas.

Netanyahu’s US visit is being seen as a microcosm of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: a complex, often confusing, and occasionally amusing dance of diplomacy and discord.
