K.T. Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), met his sister, K Kavitha, at CBI headquarters in Delhi on April 14, 2024. Ms Kavitha is currently under CBI custody in connection with the Delhi liquor scam.
K. Kavitha, a prominent BRS leader and daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, has been arrested in an alleged corruption case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
KTR, accompanied by K Kavitha’s husband, Anil Kumar, and advocate Mohit Rao, visited her at the CBI headquarters. The BRS has been actively supporting K Kavitha, with party workers staging protests against her arrest. K Kavitha has denied all allegations, terming her arrest as ‘illegal.’
The next court hearing is scheduled for April 15, 2024, when the CBI will seek K Kavitha’s custody for further interrogation.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had previously arrested K Kavitha from her residence in Hyderabad, and she was later sent to judicial custody in Tihar jail.
The Liquor Policy Scam
The Delhi liquor scam case involves allegations of irregularities in the excise policy, which was implemented in November 2021 and subsequently withdrawn in July 2022.
K Kavitha has been accused of being a key member of the “South Group,” which allegedly paid kickbacks of around Rs 100 crore to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in return for a significant share of liquor licenses in the national capital.
