Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Egyptian President Abdelfattah Elsisi signed an agreement to elevate the bilateral relationship between the countries to a ‘Strategic Partnership.’
The leaders signed three MoUs in Agriculture, Archaeology, and Antiquities. They also discussed strengthening the relationship between the two countries, including trade & investment, defense and security, renewable energy, and cultural and people-to-people ties.
Meets the ‘India Unit’ in Egyptian Cabinet
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the India Unit in the Egyptian Cabinet earlier. This unit, established earlier this year after President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi visited India, aims to bolster bilateral relations between the two nations. Headed by Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly, the India Unit comprises various ministers and senior officials.
Both nations would further explore opportunities in trade, investment, renewable energy, IT, digital payments, pharma, and people-to-people ties.
Interaction with Indian Community
The Prime Minister also interacted with the Indian community in Egypt.
PM meets the Grand Mufti of Egypt
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr. Shawky Ibrahim Allam.
The Grand Mufti commended Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in promoting inclusivity and pluralism, acknowledging India’s commitment to fostering harmony and diversity.
Both leaders acknowledged the significance of nurturing an environment that respects diversity while fostering understanding and peaceful coexistence among different religious and social groups.
Meets Business Leaders
PM Modi met Mr. Hassan Allam, CEO of Hassan Allam Holding Company, one of the largest Egyptian companies operating in the Middle East, and discussed the possibility of forging closer cooperation with Indian companies in renewable energy, infrastructure, and construction sectors.
Visits the historic Mosques
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Al-Hakim Mosque in Cairo on June 25, 2023. He met the leaders of the Bohra community, who are involved in the upkeep of the Mosque, and highlighted the strong people-to-people ties between India and Egypt.
PM visits the Heliopolis Commonwealth War Cemetery
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited the Heliopolis Commonwealth War Cemetery. He paid homage to over 4300 Indian soldiers who died in the region during the First World War.
