Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi attended the Enforcement Directorate questioning for the third time about the National Herald case.
Ms. Sonia Gandhi, accompanied by her children Rahul and Priyanka, reportedly stayed for about three hours at the ED office.
Congress party leaders and cadre who had protested on the first two occasions continued their protests across the country. The Party MPs marched to the Vijay Chowk in Delhi, accusing the government of misusing the Enforcement Directorate. Separate protests were also held along with other opposition parties to question the high inflation.
National Herald Case
Associated Journals Ltd, a brainchild of India’s first prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, ran the National Herald newspaper. It shut its operations down in 2008 owing to losses.
The company Young Indian incorporated by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Motilal Vora, and Oscar Fernandes in 2010, took over the debt of Associated Journals along with its considerable assets.
BJP MP Subramanian Swamy complained to the Delhi trial court that irregularities had taken place in taking over the huge assets belonging to Associated Journals Ltd, setting off a legal battle involving the Congress’s top leadership.
